1981 - Anatomy of a cover - What If? #29

Featuring the following stories:
"What If... the Avengers Were the Last Superheroes on Earth?"
(not quite matching the cover billing)
"What If... Sub-Mariner Never Regained His Memory?"

and the Inhumans backup:
"...The Search for the Great Refuge!"

  1. I always loved this cover. All the classic Marvel characters drawn with a (then) modern spin by Michael Golden. Wow!

  2. Also, I always wondered what that small bubble near Iceman and Mr Fantastic meant.
A moon in a word bubble, since they were unconscious?
    Anyone have an idea?

  4. Bought this issue off the racks of my local newsroom, and it was one of my favorite issues of "What If?".....can't remember why, just have a strong connection to that cover and remembering how many times I had to loan out that issue to buddies.

  6. Yeah, it seems like he changed his signature through his career, but always a "G" looking shape.
